Paul is Managing Director of R Costings and in addition to his varied caseload, his responsibilities include developing and implementing high-level strategies, monitoring the operational, marketing and business development and financial performances of the business as well as building and maintaining client relationship.
Having been involved in legal costs and a Costs Draftsman since 1994, Paul has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of costs and attending Detailed Assessment hearings. Paul is a Costs Lawyer and a Fellow of the ACL and has been a tutor to numerous students over the years who have undertaken the course successfully. Paul was one of the first Fellows to be granted rights of audience to conduct litigation. In the past, Paul has regularly given talks on costs issues to a variety of audiences. Having worked for niche costs drafting firms, Paul joined a major firm of Solicitors in London where he gained invaluable “in-house” experience and has a full understanding of Solicitors and their firms' expectations. Paul formed R Costings in 2002 and is Managing Director and whilst utilising his drafting experience and knowledge to the full is focused on enhancing the splendid reputation of R Costings and its staff.
With over 25 years of experience, Paul has been instructed predominantly on behalf of Claimants but nevertheless is regularly instructed by paying parties disputing costs and has a wealth of experience in auditing work by Unions, Blue Chip Companies and Insurers. Paul is retained by a number of clients and takes pride in bringing total commitment to every case, demonstrating outstanding attention to detail and showing sound judgement with a clear understanding of clients needs.
Paul has had experience in dealing with many claims in excess of £1m and was involved in a high profile litigation with over 5,000 claimants. Notable cases which generated public interest included those involving Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris and Stuart Hall.
Paul is still regularly instructed on costs matters himself and enjoys fee-earning, taking a particular interest in asbestos-related cases and having an unrivalled understanding and experience in this area. He is very proud of the team he has developed, which now has the reputation of being of the highest quality with a wealth of expertise in all areas of legal costs. Paul has been recommended by a leading authority in the industry top talent list for Costs Lawyers and is a forward 'out of the box' thinker. His business has also benefitted from him being a finalist in several categories and winner in the Reach Business Coaching awards.
Paul enjoys spending his spare time with his partner and their four children. He is a director of his local football club St Ives Town, a semi-professional club currently enjoying sustained success in the Southern League. He also enjoys the occasional game of golf (time permitting), reading and more recently finding he has a taste for country music.
