Paul is a Senior Law Costs Draftsman and heads up the R Costings budgeting team. Paul has over 20 years experience dealing with legal costs, having previously worked in-house at a Legal 500 top tier personal injury firm specialising in catastrophic injury litigation. Coming from that in-house background Paul understands the team orientated holistic approach that it is essential for instructing Solicitors and costs professionals to utilise to prepare costs budgets that will stand up not only to the rigours of the approval process at CCMC, but properly protect and maximise Claimant’s costs recovery throughout the lifetime of the case. Paul regularly attends CCMC’s in the High Court and County Court to represent clients in both catastrophic injury clinical negligence and personal injury claims, and complex high value commercial litigation claims.
Paul also undertakes cost negotiations on high value Bills, attending Detailed Assessment hearings in the SCCO and nationally and practices regularly in the area of Solicitors Act assessments representing both lay clients and firms of Solicitors.
Paul provides training presentations to Solicitors and Counsel alike (principally on costs budgeting), both through R Costings and external costs training providers, and has regularly appeared on panels speaking alongside High Court Judges and Masters, Queens Counsel and Senior Costs Barristers.
Paul was involved in a notable case attending at Detailed Assessment before Master Gordon Saker where it was successfully argued a Bill of Costs drawn in excess of £243,000.00 was proportionate, notwithstanding that damages recovered in the original claim were only £12,000.00.
Away from the office Paul is a football fan and FA qualified youth coach, enthusiastic music and record collector, and enjoys spending time at home with his wife and son.
